ERP goes mobile, as well as focusing on helping users reduce costs and encourage a better response from their own customers…

Epicor’s latest version of its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) suite – 9.05 – is focused on helping users target cost reductions and process improvement, as well as encouraging a better response from their own customers, says the ERP software company.

These are the top-of-the-list priorities of ERP users, says Epicor.

The company quotes a recent survey by analyst firm Forrester Research of North American and European small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that found these were companies’ top priorities for recovering from the recession and for future growth.

“Similar to large firms, SMBs consider cost reduction in their core business to be a number one priority. Execution speed in business processes, such as shortening the time of order-to-cash processes, follows cost reduction as a top priority for future business growth.”

Epicor’s suite is designed to serve a wide range of business types, from manufacturers to distributors, to financial institutions to service firms, and retailers. Epicor has also expanded the capabilities of its suite when it comes to service industries, enabling them to handle project management and accounting. These are expected to be particularly helpful to those companies involved in government contract work and professional services.

In addition, the new 9.05 release allows for mobile access, which means users can now deploy a mobile version of the application onto their BlackBerry, Windows Phone or Apple iPhone, to help them conduct business remotely.

Search facilities have also been expanded and can now be invoked from a range of applications, including Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint or Excel, as well as from the browser.
