Kordia NZ is expands cyber-security portfolio with purchase of Wellington’s Aura Information Security…

New Zealand’s tech startups span the full gamut of the industry, including information security (typically an arena dominated by large multinational organisations). With its NZ$10.02m acquisition of Aura, Kordia has given its cyber-security footprint a jolt in the arm, making it a major player addressing ‘unprecedented demand’ for services in this sector.

Founded in 2001 by Andy Prow, Aura provides specialist computer and network security services throughout the country, as well as in Australia and the US.

Kordia’s CE Scott Bartlett said cyber-security is one of the single biggest challenges facing business globally. “The recently published Institute of Directors Sentiment Survey showed that only 27 percent of New Zealand boards are confident of their ability to deal with a cyber-security incident.  It highlights the risk to New Zealand business, and the need for trusted advice.”

Bartlett added that the growth curve for security services is steepening; “This acquisition equips Kordia to further advance our security strategy and meet the demands of our current and potential customer base.”

Prow said the deal will massively grow Aura’s presence and capability locally while supporting and accelerating global growth.

Aura will continue its current working relationships under a separate division within Kordia New Zealand. All Aura personnel are retained and key staff members Mark Keegan and Peter Bailey join the Kordia executive committee in their current roles of consulting practice manager and manager service delivery respectively.
