ACIS Conference
Navigating our virtual future

ACIS Conference will bring together public officials, business and civic leaders, and academics wonder how they can contribute to guiding and navigating the path to our digital future in a way that creates benefits for everyone.

South Pacific people have been explorers, navigators and innovators for centuries. For the conference theme, we draw on the metaphor of the waka, or vessel, which carried each of us, or our ancestors, to New Zealand.

Disruption associated with digital technology is occurring on a large scale and at a rapid pace; it has been described as the fourth industrial revolution. Technologies are disrupting industries and jobs, creating new opportunities, new risks, “unicorn” companies, new business models and new ways of living, working and interacting.

People at all levels of society are struggling to respond to these changes. Many, including public officials, business and civic leaders, and academics wonder how they can contribute to guiding and navigating the path to our digital future in a way that creates benefits for everyone. For the conference theme, we ask how can Information Systems help us navigate the waka we are all in together in the “uncharted waters” of rapid technology-driven change?

Conference co-chairs:
Dr Janet Toland – Head of School, School of Information Management, Victoria University of Wellington
Emeritus Professor Pak Yoong – Wellington School of Business and Government, Victoria University of Wellington
Professor Michael Myers – University of Auckland Business School

ACIS2020 is now a virtual conference.
