Hack Tairāwhiti
Every one of our businesses needs to radically change to realise the possibilities of the world we live in.

Hack Tairāwhiti is a 48 hour Hackathon event brings together New Zealand exporters and the country’s top tech talent together in Gisborne to unlock the region’s potential to support entrepreneurs across New Zealand.

Hack Tairāwhiti is being led by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) and Datacom, together with support from Activate Tairāwhiti, Gisborne District Council and Te Tira Toi Whakangao (T3W).

Technology is now a part of everyone’s lives – Hack Tairāwhiti will help the businesses and people of Gisborne to better understand how to embrace technology, and provide the opportunity to be part of a movement around regional economic development to change our country.

Connecting whanau to the tech venture ecosystem plays a vital role in improving regional prosperity, which is why Hack Tairāwhiti is so important.

Today, Aotearoa is a modern nation built on the integrity of people, forging our own independent way in the world. We are a country charged with the guardianship of our environment, for the future, on behalf of those who came before us.

We are a country built on ingenuity, poised to disrupt big paradigms from the edge of the world.

Collaboration is key to increasing capability and accessing investment and networks. By working together, companies can grow faster than they would on their own and so can Aotearoa.

The surrounding region of Gisborne is called Tairāwhiti, which means the “coast of the rising sun”. Gisborne’s Mount Hikurangi is the first point in the world to see the light of the new day, and the region also has the largest percentage of Māori descendants at almost 50%. Some towns north of the provincial centre are almost entirely Māori.
