Thanks Luigi - the vacuum of information, consultation or formal announcement on what is being done suggests to me that the issue has been politicised. I have not seen any hint that there is the political will to use technology in this manner. Geo-fencing of self-isolated and quarantined contacts was a no brainer and could have played a major role in the initial spread - NZ Police were on the right track but the SAR tool they tried to roll-out was not fit for purpose and the messaging on it so badly executed they got scared off (most arrivals thought it was spam). While we happily allow the global tech giants to track our every move, there has been a void of leadership on digital contact tracing. Much easier to close borders and ban businesses from operating than to properly understand and invest in ways that technology, and NZ's tech sector, can help.

Amidst the awesome work that our leaders are doing, I also feel there is a big gap when it comes to tracing people with COVID19 and general movement. We are world leaders when it comes to Fleet Management and there are certain companies that have applied AI and BI automation which has uncovered all sorts of information that is surprising and impressive. It seems we are not approaching or working with those companies.

In addition, there are several companies in the business intelligence and artificial intelligence business who can also do far more than just ring people to see who they have been in touch with and I am not talking about Google or Facebook, rather, Kiwi companies.

Yes, there are massive privacy issues and this is why the government needs to manage any process and why I would not like to see global social media companies who might not have the ability to 'unlearn' the information they gain in the process of monitoring behaviour.

I am weary of an over-reaction to going down to Level 3 given that police are charging more than 100 people a day for breaches now. I get that people are becoming stir crazy, but that adds to the risk next week.

The government have access to lots of medical advice and of course the GCSB, but there are many companies who can help who are probably not being consulted, possibly even because they don't know who they are, or they do not understand knowledge based technology.
