The Government’s Department of Building and Housing has selected content management vendor Objective to design and implement a solution to manage its information, knowledge and records.
The department has approximately 500,000 electronic documents, increasing in size by approximately 10% per annum. It also has an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 business related emails and 200,000 paper-based documents.
The Objective solution will be used to support the growth of the department’s knowledge base and assist in the dissemination of information across the department, as well as gathering and collating information that will assist with policy advice and operational decision-making.
Approximately 400 department staff will use the Objective solution which will be integrated with existing and new business applications, and deployed across all department desktop computers and laptops.
Objective will primarily be used to manage the creation, storage, retrieval and retention of all electronic documents and records to establish a centralised repository of the department’s entire corporate, business and customer information.
“We needed an enterprise solution that would manage our entire information life cycle, integrate with existing and new business applications, and support the department in meeting its statutory compliance obligations under the Public Records Act 2005,” says Mike Winiata, the department’s chief advisor, information.
The Department of Building and Housing was established in 2004 to bring together people and functions from across the government to provide a whole-of-sector approach to New Zealand’s built environment.
