Digital easy in a good week for payments in NZ…
Hot on the heels of ANZ’s announcement of its GoMoney Wallet which lets its customers pay using their smartphones, payments provider Visa has introduced its Checkout service. Visa said Checkout is designed to remove the excessive form filling associated with some online purchases.
A recent APAC survey commissioned by Visa showed more than half (53%) of respondents have stopped an online transaction because filling in information is too much hassle. By enrolling in Checkout – and providing shipping, billing and payment details – the process is expedited, though you will need (yet another) a username and password. Enter that and the rest is dealt to.
“As people around the world spend more time and money online, particularly using mobile devices, they are demanding a fast, secure and frictionless way to shop,” said Visa NZ and South Pacific country manager Marty Kerr.
He likened Checkout to the simplicity and speed of Visa’s contactless service payWave, but for online transactions.
HOYTS, Flight Centre, Event Cinemas and the Movember Foundation are the first merchants to offer Visa Checkout. The Warehouse Group is set to launch Visa Checkout in four of its retail businesses including The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Torpedo 7 Group and Noel Leeming in 2016. Chief digital officer Craig Jordan said it will introduce a new level of convenience.
“We’ve seen huge pickup in the number of customers shopping online and via mobile devices in 2015, with well north of 50 percent of traffic from mobile, so delivering Visa Checkout is a natural step,” he noted.
Visa Checkout is also available with more than 250,000 merchants across the world, including Cotton On, Bonds, Dick Smith, Catch of the Day and Village Cinemas in Australia and stores like Shutterfly, Virgin America, Abercrombie & Fitch and Orbitz after launching overseas last year.
ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank and Warehouse Money are participating in the service, and Visa said customers of other banks can also load their cards. Signup can be done through participating banks or merchant checkout pages, or directly at www.visacheckout.co.nz.
