Glitch sees Dick Smith giving items away for free

Dick Smith was forced to take its site down this morning after a glitch allowed customers to purchase items for the mistakenly displayed prices of zero dollars…

Twitter users made posts this morning that only shipping and handling was being charged on purchases made via the New Zealand Dick Smith website.

The site went offline soon after.

The company followed suit by turning to Twitter to keep customers updated on the situation, saying that the new pricing was the result of “a technical glitch”, and taking the opportunity to dampen any enthusiasms that the items bought during the free shopping spree would stay free.

“As some of you would have seen there was a technical issue with pricing on our website. We are working to have correct pricing restored,” the company tweeted this morning.

“For orders placed we will be in contact with you to confirm cancellation or whether you would like the items at their correct pricing.”

The website is now back online and Dick Smith representatives appear able to see the funny side in this morning’s events.

“Wow, 1000th Tweet for us… not how we wanted to start the week off!! Mondays are hard enough as it is!”
