Dimension Data’s newly announced enterprise mobility as a service solution will be served up to local users out of its data centres around the world, including A/NZ, and is just one sign of significant growth in the managed mobile services market…
An enterprise mobility management service that can be tailored to deliver mobile device management, mobile expense management, and rules-based mobile integration with enterprise systems has been unveiled by Dimension Data for release later this year.
With a particular focus on supporting organisations which have a high penetration of BYO devices, the service provides rules-based access to applications for individuals plus mobile device management, delivering IT with greater control and transparency regarding the enterprise computing environment.
According to Steve Nola, group executive of IT as a service at Dimension Data the new mobile as a service solution; “Enables businesses to remove the cost and complexity from their mobility deployments while gaining visibility and control across the entirety of those deployments. With this service, mobile-enabled organisations will benefit from increased staff productivity, responsiveness and decision-making speed as well as rapid issue resolution and satisfaction for mobile workers.”
Demand for such services is fuelling significant industry growth. A new survey released by Research and Markets last month forecast that the managed mobile services market would grow by 28 percent a year until 2018.
Demand for mobile access to corporate applications is also underpinning strong demand for virtual desktop infrastructure delivered to any platform from a cloud. A Visiongrain survey has found that the cloud-based virtual desktop infrastructure market alone was worth $US13.4 billion last year.
Dimension Data’s planned service which will be available by the end of the year will manage secure access to corporate information from any device; support rapid provisioning and end user self-service; manage mobile invoices; and provide enterprise transparency regarding mobile activity across the enterprise network delivered on a pay-as-you-use basis.
This is likely to be just a first foray into cloud-based mobile management services. Last month Dimension Data acquired UK firm Teliris which has developed a cloud-based video management service, and the functionality that could deliver to mobiles is also likely to eventually find its way into the service catalogue offered by Dimension Data.
The range of data centres hooked into Dimension Data’s international cloud also continues to grow. In May the company announced plans to open a data centre in Auckland, one of 13 around the world including centres in Sydney and Melbourne.
