Microsoft New Zealand has announced a Windows Phone 7 Challenge – a competition that encourages New Zealand software developers to develop some of the world’s first applications for the new Windows Phone 7 platform.
With two Windows Phone 7 devices up for grabs, entrants will be able to take advantage of the free Windows Phone 7 developer tools and learning resources – available at http://developer.windowsphone.com – to build their applications.
The competition comprises two categories, a general New Zealand category and a Trade Me category.
The New Zealand category asks that developers design and build an original App or game that is inspired by New Zealand through local services, themes and culture. The Trade Me category will see developers competing to build an original application for Windows Phone 7 that leverages the new Trade Me API to create a mobile Trade Me experience.
From October 1, 2010 through to November 1, 2010, entrants will be able to design and build their applications, then submit a three minute screencast demonstrating the core functions and features along with a relevant commentary.
Ten finalists in the New Zealand category and five finalists in the Trade Me category will be selected by the Microsoft team and announced by November 8. The finalists will then progress to round two, where they’ll be asked to submit their applications to Microsoft for end-to-end testing before winners are announced on Monday, November 15.
