Empired launches trans-Tasman cloud ECM…

Infrastructure and services company Empired, which is most commonly encountered in Australia, has launched a cloud enterprise content management (ECM) service which it said is suitable for Australian and New Zealand (ANZ) businesses and government agencies. The solution itself is notable for being designed and built for government use – but now, the company behind it believes it is ready for wider deployment in the private sector.

While Empired may not be a name seen all that often in New Zealand, sharp eyed readers will recall that it is the owner of Intergen, having acquired the Kiwi provider of Microsoft enterprise software and related services in late 2014.

So it is then, that Empired said in a statement that Cohesion is built on a Microsoft-based enterprise document and records management service; it was made by Intergen and originally targeted at New Zealand government clients.

The software is designed to help agencies meet content, collaboration, and information management needs with a secure enterprise-grade service accessible from anywhere. It is used by government agencies such as the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) in New Zealand, which signed a six-year Cohesion government contract for NZD$12 million in 2015.

The ECM market is a busy one, competed for by well-known vendors which include the likes of Xerox, OpenText, Documentum, Microsoft and IBM, and lesser-known ones like M-Files, Upland Software, Hyland, Alfresco, Everteam and Kofax.

Empired COO and Intergen CEO Simon Bright said Cohesion was set up to help public sector agencies communicate, collaborate, and meet their records management requirements with a cloud-delivered ECM service.

“With the introduction of Cohesion, Empired can now offer this same service via the public cloud to private sector organisations and government agencies across ANZ. The platform leverages the Microsoft stack, which makes Cohesion is a natural extension for many organisations with a familiar interface and functionality.”

Bright said expanding the product beyond the government clients is a natural evolution, “particularly given the strong trend where government and enterprise are more open to public cloud services and are becoming more comfortable with the level of security public clouds have.”

He claimed that Cohesion “is a key productivity enabler by virtue of using the Microsoft platform that is already in place and extending the capability to include ECM in a user friendly form. The Cohesion advantage is that it will be instantly familiar to users, leading to a rapid and high adoption rate.”
