The industry conference in Auckland last week culminated in the ITx Awards celebrating the best IT professionals from 2014…
The inaugural ITx Excellence in IT Awards hosted by the Institute of IT Professionals (IITP), took place on Friday night with ex-IT pro turned comedian Jeremy Corbett as compère sans compare and an address from the Honorable Minister Steven Joyce. The awards were designed to acknowledge the “unsung heroes” of IT – the IT practitioners themselves – rather than the vendors and companies that are frequently recognised by other awards agendas.
Aware of the increasingly full IT awards roster IITP wisely decided to collaborate with seven other IT associations to bring one consolidated awards programme. The collaborating associations were the Institute of IT Professionals, CITRENZ, NZRise, Internet NZ, the Project Management Institute of NZ, Health Informatics NZ, GOVIS, and the NZ Software Association.
iStart editor Clare Coulson was among a range of industry, academic and business judges for the awards, and attested to the strength demonstrated across an impressive list of submissions.
You can follow iStart’s running commentary of the event posted live on Twitter on #itx2014, but first, we’ve put together a few of our honourable mentions for the night:
Best acceptance speech
Josh Comrie accepting on behalf of, and imitating, Gareth Berry
Niftiest awards ‘thing’
3D printed models of the winners on their trophies.
Best tweet & twitpic
Minister-of-everything Steven Joyce
Okay so it’s not the best of photos but he did take it from the podium and iStart is in it, so we may be a little biased
Last man standing
Paul Matthews – the IITP CEO for enthusiastically leading the charge into the wee hours
