Parents of Orewa College students have been told that they will need to purchase an iPad2 for year nine students for 2012…

The decile-nine state school has sent a letter to parents of year-nine students telling them that they are required to “purchase a one to one computer device for [their] year 9 student to have with them in the classroom”, with the preferred device being an iPad2.

An information sheet included with the memo contained advice on a savings plan that could be started to fund the purchase.

An iPad2 sells for around $900.

The school has reportedly selected the iPad2, rather than a laptop or notebook, because of the iPad’s longer battery life and portability.
